Among Kauris

Among kauris I come
to the hallowed spot
of burned-red clay -
hear the giants growing
breathing scented air
with seasoned sap
their risen resin

From their arms
warblers' greetings:
alphas, omegas
beginnings, endings

Among kauris I stop
where there's nothing
but the song of tui
and a full moon rising
over still lake waters
